Join the chorus
There’s a place for you here.
Whether you’ve been singing for years or are just getting started, the Des Moines Gay Men's Chorus is a welcoming community built on connection, inclusion, and the power of music. No auditions are required to join the chorus, just a willingness to show up, sing, and be part of something bigger.
Some members choose to take it a step a further by participating in our small ensembles, while others simply enjoy the experience of singing and performing together. However you want to be involved, you’re welcome here.
Being part of the chorus means more than just singing. You’ll perform for audiences across Central Iowa, grow as a singer with guidance from our artistic team, and build confidence through shared experiences. Along the way, you’ll find a supportive, welcoming community and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.

No, though it's great if you can! You will have plenty of support from your fellow members, as well as your section leader and our Artistic Director. We do provide singers with vocal rehearsal tracks, so you can practice on your own at home.

Membership dues are:
$90 per season
Or $30 per concert cycle
We never want cost to be a barrier. Financial assistance and scholarships are available for dues, attire, and other expenses. All requests are handled confidentially.

Consistency matters because we perform as a group.
Members are expected to attend rehearsals regularly, with up to 3 excused absences per concert cycle (before production week). If conflicts come up, communication is key.
If attendance becomes an issue, it may impact participation in a performance, but we always aim to work with members when possible.

Our traditional concert attire is a standard single-breasted black tuxedo jacket and pants (with black silk stripe down the leg), white tuxedo shirt with fold-down collar, a black cummerbund or black vest, and black bow tie. Black polished dress shoes are also expected. DMGMC provides financial assistance for anyone who may struggle to purchase this attire (we also have a closet of donated tuxedos!). On many occasions, in a less formal environment, the chorus members may wear a chorus polo shirt with nice pants. The Chorus makes accommodations for singers whose gender expression would make them feel uncomfortable wearing a traditional tuxedo.
